FAQs
How much does it cost?
Membership costs occasionally change but as of 2016/17 it costs £20 membership for under 18s, £30 membership for adults and £5 per session. If you are borrowing a boat overnight, this needs to be signed out and costs £10 on each occasion.

I’ve never kayaked or canoed before, can I still join?
Of course. Come along to one of our sessions and have a go. We let newbies come to three sessions before they have to join.

Do I need to be a strong swimmer?
No. But it certainly won't do any harm if you are.

What kit/boat do I need?
The club is able to lend out boats, paddles, buoyancy aids, helmets and cags for members to go out on river trips. You need to have clothes suitable to the weather conditions and something to wear on your feet.

Can my children have a go? How old do they have to be?
We welcome children as well as adults. There is no lower age limit but 8 years of age seems to be the youngest in most cases. But speak to us first. We also ask that all children are accompanied by a parent or guardian.

What sort of boats do you have?
We have a wide selection of canoes and kayaks. These include many river running kayaks, with a smaller selection of play boats and sea kayaks as well as open boats (Canadian canoes).

Where do you paddle?
The club uses local rivers such as, the Bann, Blackwater and Cusher for members to paddle on and develop their skills. We also paddle loughs and frequently goes on multi-day camping trips.

Do you provide qualifications?
Yes. We can bring paddlers through the Paddle Power scheme and BCU star awards.
